Very interesting website, and looking forward immensly to the book publication this month. A fascinating area with an equally fascinating history. Keep up the good work Roland!
Hi there, I was lucky enough to have stayed with some OUTSTANDING Belmont folk 35 years back. At that time traveling as a backpacker from New Zealand. I loved every moment of my time in Belmont and have such warm thoughts and memories of those very special people that were kind enough to put up with a fool hardy and know it all Kiwi lad. Belmont village, such warm and wonderful memories, thank you 1000 times over.
Great site! I'm researching my Allcock family history - they lived in Burdon Lane during the 1910/20s - so it's nice to read about how the area grew up. Maybe I'll visit sometime and find out more.
I have a Seargent's swagger stick with an inscription "presented to Sgt. Fisher by the Belmont Friends, Mumbles 1915" Sgt. Fisher was my great-gradfather and i wondered if there was a Belmont Friends group who may have been stationed in South wales during WW1.
Congratulations on a wonderful site. I lived in Banstead Road South from 1950 to 1966 when I got married in St.Johns as did my parents in 1939.Went to school at Miss Attrells(end two terraced houses,Station Road, opposite garage. Then Sutton High for Boys.Did 2 paper rounds for Rex's.Sang in St.Johns choir. Roamed the Downs on my bike.Very warm memories. Thanks for reminding me.
Greatly enjoyed your site. I also attended Avenue Primary School in the 1970's, and finished my education at Greenshaw High School, via Sutton West High School. Still live locally in Banstead Road South. Will monitor your site with great anticipation.
Lovely, I really enjoyed your site and will be revisiting in the future to find out what else you have discovered. We live in Chiltern Road and our children go to Avenue Primary School and Overton Grange so we walk through Belmont every day!
